Call Me By Your Name, Moonlight, God’s Own Country – LGBTQ+ films have finally made it into the mainstream over the past couple of years. Yet, most of these popular stories are about men and directed by men. Director Desiree Akhavan is at the forefront of raising awareness that even though Hollywood is heading in the right direction, it’s not quite there yet. Her film The Miseducation of Cameron Post and upcoming Channel 4 series The Bisexual tell real and raw stories offering a truthful representation of what it really means to be a queer woman today. We spoke to Desiree to find out why this is so important to her and what we as viewers can do to help.
